Zig Zag Tray with Gold Flecks {DIY}

Howdy! Did you know March is craft month? It is and today I am participating with a few other crafters in Crafting in the Rain’s Craft Month A-Z.  I was a little late in signing up and snagged the very last letter, Z.  lol I thought about zebra patterns, flowers that start with z (Zinnia), and finally came around to zig zags. Whew! Zig zags are perfect.  When I went thrifting with my mom a few weeks ago I found a wooden tray for $4 and knew that would be the object of  my “zig zagging” affection.

Supplies:

Tray (sand paper)

Painter’s tape

Spray Paint

Gold Sharpie (optional)

Step 1:

Sand the tray and wipe clean.  Use painter’s tape to create a zig zag pattern on your tray.  (I had wide painter’s tape so I cut it into thinner strips)

Step 2:

Spray paint and let dry for at least 30 minutes before removing painter’s tape.

Step 3: (optional)

Paint the underside and sides a contrasting color.  I used gold spray paint!

Step 4: (optional)

Use a gold sharpie marker to create gold flecks in the tray.  I decided to do this because my tray had a lot of dings in it so I filled them in with the gold sharpie. :)

Step 5:

To protect your beautiful zig zags, use a coat of polyurethane or let the paint cure (don’t touch it) for a week.

I am re-styling my bookcase this week and will probably use this tray on it!

      Well, at first I covered a couple of nicks with it but then I thought “gold flecks”. I like the way the light catches it. :) Thanks for the sweet comment Staci!

      Thanks Katy! I was surprised how quickly I did it. Of course I “eyeball” everything. lol Glad you liked it! (you could probably do something during nap time!)
