Hi there! Summer is in full swing around here and we’ve been busy relaxing. Ha! Do you feel that way? We have a big trip planned for next month so a little local sight seeing and beach trips are perfect right now. In the meantime, I have been doing a few things around the house and I’m thrilled to show you artwork and wallpaper inspired by Sarah Jessica Parker for the Inspired by DIY series hosted by Domicile 37. This just might be my favorite monthly challenge because it pushes me to get a lot done! A huge thank you to Minted and Tempaper for sponsoring this post!! They provided me renter friendly wallpaper and artwork to help my dining room vision come to life!
My inspiration came from Sarah Jessica Parker’s NYC home. I think it reflects her causal and chic fashion that we often see. Pops of b&w and other neutrals with great textures and a touch of glam.

Isn’t this home gorgeous? This style is perfect for our Japanese rental home. Clean lines, warm wood tones, lots of neutral with a little pink. I mean, I can’t ever think of SJP without thinking of blush pink!

My first step in this last phase of our dining room makeover, was to add more glam. I did this with a gorgeous Metallic Gold/White by Booby Berk temporary wallpaper from Tempaper. It really lightened the dark alcove in the tatami room and was easy to install. I’ve mentioned that the walls are made of sand (this is common in tatami rooms) so we used staples around the edges to hold the paper in place. It worked really well!
The koi fish painting is my favorite composition I’ve done at a paint and sip party. Aren’t the colors great?
Here’s a before shot.
Bookcase styling steps: First, I arranged the books I wanted to use, then added plants and decor! I always work in thirds to keep things balanced.
The finished look!
After installing the wallpaper with help from my husband, the last thing was to add a few more art pieces from Minted for the empty walls on the other sides of the room. I found two Japanese calligraphy inspired prints from Jamie Derringer and a gorgeous abstract art titled passage by Kelly Ventura. Just perfect for our house and a nod to SJP classic b&w decor and fashion elements.
I had to get creative when hanging the art. I ended up stapling jute twine to the back of the frame and hung each print on a “s” from the picture rail. These three are 11x14s and each fit’s a panel on a different wall.
I ordered one more larger Minted print to be a focal point for our cabinet which actually houses our router and xbox for the tv around the corner. It’s titled Son and is by artist Lori Wemple. It’s so lovely! I’m hoping to paint the cabinet the same pink in the print. I really like the pops of yellow in this vignette too!
The view from the living room is pretty amazing now. If it will only stay this clean.
I can’t believe how much I love this little Japanese home. It’s small but so charming!
What do you think? The white/metallic wallpaper and Minted art pieces could totally fit into SFP home style? Right?!?
Can’t wait to see what my friends did with their spaces and DIYs. Will you join me?
